Our Story

 

It’s All About Balance® … at sea, work, play and in life.  With degree in Recreation Administration and focus in wellness, I am able to express my quest for balance through Plimsoll Gear®, a company that speaks to the spirit in us all.

The story began simply enough. I came across one of my husband’s business cards in our home office. Charles is a retired merchant mariner now marine cargo surveyor.  He finds his balance tending to ships at the port, be it at home in Morehead City, or at any terminal around the globe. On his card was a hieroglyphic-looking symbol that grabbed my attention.  This symbol is used in the shipping industry is a ship’s load line – a visual reading of how much cargo a vessel is carrying, ensuring that the ship is well balanced and ready for its journey.

Not only was it eye catching, but the Plimsoll Mark on his card reminded me of the parallel between the design and balance we should be seeking in our everyday life. Whether it is at work, home, on the soccer field, the yoga mat, a bicycle, surfboard, relationships, our environment, etc,  finding a healthy, balanced lifestyle, both physically and spiritually, is the key to a life well lived. It is an integral part of each of us, regardless of what our journey may be. Like vessels heading out to sea, each of us is searching for that even load.

Named after its founder, Samuel Plimsoll, the Plimsoll Mark has provided a guide for the shipping industry since the mid-1800s, and today, through Plimsoll Gear, it provides a reminder to everyone of balance in our daily lives.

Combining our two backgrounds of balance at sea as well as balance in life,  Plimsoll Gear®  is an apparel company with designs and bold colors that reflect our philosophy on balance.  This philosophy of balance, inspires all who wear our gear. 

That search for balance in all we do is one of the many threads that bind all of mankind no matter who we are or what we do. And it provides the heart and soul of Plimsoll Gear®, the company dedicated to inspire individual balance.

We all have a Plimsoll Line, a point where, for the sake of health, happiness and plain common sense, we should not attempt to shoulder more responsibility, however important, than we can intelligently handle.
