It's All About Balance®
It starts with a deep breath. An early morning walk. A cup of coffee with a good friend. A workout that leaves you better than it found you. Being outside. Moving. Connecting. These are the moments that remind us what matters most — and the moments that gave Plimsoll Gear® its purpose.
A UNC Chapel Hill education gave me a framework, but it was a lifelong passion for wellness and an active life that gave me a calling: to build a brand rooted in something real.
That something is balance.
The inspiration for Plimsoll Gear® came while I was dusting our home office. I picked up my husband Charles's business card, noticed the Plimsoll Mark, and began researching what it meant. What I discovered became the inspiration for Plimsoll Gear®.
The Plimsoll Mark is our symbol. Found on the hull of every ocean-going vessel, it marks the point beyond which a ship should not be loaded. Named after Samuel Plimsoll, this load line has guided the shipping industry since the mid-1800s. But its meaning reaches far beyond the sea.
The Plimsoll Mark mirrors the balance we all seek — at work, at home, on the soccer field, the yoga mat, a bicycle, a surfboard, in relationships, and with our environment. Like ships heading out to sea, we, too, must find our even load.
It’s All About Balance® is our belief. The apparel is our vehicle. Every piece we make carries the mark — a wearable reminder to pause, check your load, and move forward with intention.
Our social posts are gentle nudges. Our hang tags explain the meaning. And this website tells the story.
When we say Wear the Reminder™, we mean it literally. Put on the gear and you carry the message with you — a daily prompt to find your balance, wherever the day takes you.
Because no matter who we are or where our journey takes us, balance is the thread that connects us all.
